Aston Martin has finally confirmed that the four door Rapide will cost £139,950 when customer cars start to arrive in 2010.
Last month we reported that Aston Martin had let leak that the US price for the new Aston Martin Rapide would be $200,000, whilst showcasing the Rapide at a glitzy Hollywood event. That lead us to speculate that the UK price for the Rapide would be around the £140,000 – a bit less than we’d previously thought.
It’s take Aston a week or three to get round to announcing the price officially, but they’ve now admitted that the 2010 Aston Marin Rapide will cost £139,950. So we were £50 out. We can live with that.
Of course, that hefty price tag – even if it is less than we originally thought – is still a mountain of cash above anything else you could sensibly call a rival. And the performance of the Rapide doesn’t exactly set it apart either. Let’s face it, a Panamera Turbo will blow it away for more than £40k less. The Maserati Quattroporte does all the Rapide does – at half the price. And if you start to throw Jags in to the equation, the XFR cost £80,000 less and does all that the Rapide can in the way of performance and a bit better job in terms of accommodation. Even if you throw in the most expensive new XJ you can find you’ll still see enough change to buy an XFR as well.
But the Rapide isn’t about price. It isn’t about playing’ Top Trumps’. It’s about the soul of the car. The way an Aston Martin makes you feel – even when it’s standing still. And you can’t put a price on that.
Supercars are different. And the Aston Martin Rapide is a purchase from the heart, not the wallet
