There are new reports that Audi are to build a limited production version – 250-500 cars – of the Audi Quattro Concept.
The highlight of the Audi stand at the Paris Motor Show this year is the Audi Quattro Concept. Built to celebrate 30 years since the original Audi Quattro – in the form of the original Ur Quattro – which took the car world by storm and changed the world’s perception of Audis.
Actually, we’d expected it to be called the Audi UrQuattro Concept in honour of the original, but when Audi rolled it out they’d kept it simple; Audi Quattro Concept. And much play has been made of the fact that this is just a concept. But we think different.
When we ran a story on what we thought would be the UrQuattro Concept the weekend before the Paris Motor Show, our sources were saying that the 21st century Quattro would turn in to a limited run production model. But Audi were adamant that wouldn’t happen.
We re-iterated our view that the Audi Quattro Concept would end up being built when Audi revealed the Quattro at Paris last week, but again the response from Audi was the same – it’s just a concept. But it seems we’re not alone in this view.
Autocar are now reporting the same; the Audi Quattro Concept will become a limited edition Audi with a build run of 250-500 cars. They’ve even talked officially to Audi on this and the intimation is that Audi are going to do it and get ItalDesign to handle the build.
Which is pretty much what we said.
