Bio-Fuel Skycar to go in to production

Parajet's Skycar looks set for road-legal production in 2010

Three months ago we brought you news on the plans of London Company Parajet International Ltd to take their Skycar on a trip to Timbuktu. Well, not only was the trip a great success – they arrived in Timbutu on 26th March – but the Skycar is now destined to go in to production next year.

Bedfordshire Company Rage Motorsport, best known for producing Buggies, is to partner with Parajet to produce completely road-legal versions of the Skycar, with Rage producing the cars/buggies and Parajet adding the bits to make it fly (which makes sense!).

The companies are busy working on a new chassis that will incorporate the big fan at the back within the tubular bodywork, which will not only look better but will drop the weight by around 175lb. Other changes include a reworked rear parachute and a new bio-fuel Yamaha 3 pot engine.

Parajet reckon that testing will take place in the Autumn and that the car will be ready to sell next year. But although this is real boys-own-adventure stuff – just like every 1920s sci-fi film with us all driving around in flying cars (and appropriately enough the patron of the project is none other than intrepid explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes) – there will be a drawback. You’re not only going to have to have a driving license, but also a pilots license. Now where did I put my application forms for a PPL?!
