New BMW 320d ED Sport adds a sport to touch to the eco 3-Series
The BMW 320d ED Sport has been launched – as a saloon and estate- and adds a sporty option to BMW’s most economical 3-Series, without much damage to economy.
Even if buyers want a car that’s as ‘green’ as possible, it doesn’t mean they necessarily want to drive around in a car that shouts ‘hair shirt’.So BMW has decided to launch the 320d ED Sport as an addition to its eco 3-Series range with a raft of tweaks to make it more appealing to look at, without having too much impact on economy and emissions.
Based on the latest BMW 320d ED, the new Sport trim gets the same 163bhp 2.0 litre diesel with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed auto gearbox – and the same performance of 0-62mph in 7.8 seconds – but adding the sport bits does cut official economy from 74.3mpg to 70.6mpg (and emissions increase from 99g/km to 104g/km), resulting in a small increase in running costs (BMW reckon £3 a month).
The Sport bit adds bigger alloys (17″, with 18″ and 19″ options), Business Nav, Dakota leather, Sports steering wheel and heated sports seats – a total of £840 worth of extras for only £500 more than the regular 320d ED Plus.
That means the new BMW 320d ED Sport costs from £30,205 and the 320d ED Sport Touring from £31,505.
