BMW are teasing a one-off V12 Gran Lusso Coupe designed by Pininfarina ahead of its reveal at the 2013 Villa d’este Concorso d’Eleganza.

Does that mean the Gran Lusso previews a new 8 Series from BMW? Probably not, any more than last year’s BMW Zagato Coupe from Villa d’este spawned a new BMW, but it’s an interesting idea to revive a big V12 coupe when the rest of the car world is downsizing.
BMW aren’t giving much away about the Gran Lusso beyond these few photos, but it’s clear from those tease photos that it has a makeup similar to the 8 Series, with a long nose, two doors and swooping coupe roofline.
The interior, which BMW isn’t revealing until Villa d’este, is said to be a blend of elegance and luxury with a typical BMW driver-focused layout and minimalist design. We take that to mean lots of leather and just a couple of screens. But we’ll find out in just over a week.
If the Gran Lusso Coupe does preview a new model from BMW, it would give them the opportunity to take on the new Mercedes S Class Coupe and the ‘Will arrive eventually’ Jaguar XJC, with not just a V12 version but a V8 (and doubtless a 3.0 diesel) of a new 2014 BMW 8 Series.
