BMW i8 Roadster teased on video
The BMW i8 Roadster is set to finally debut as a production model at the Frankfurt Motor show, so BMW are busy teasing the open top i8’s arrival.
It was way back in 2012 that we first saw the BMW i8 Roadster, admittedly as a concept, as BMW started to deliver on their promise of a hybrid supercar. When the i8 did arrive as a production model it came as a coupe, but BMW did manage to return with a new i8 Roadster Concept last year as it finally became clear the i8 Roadster would arrive as a production model – eventually.
But now, ahead of an expected arrival in production guise at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, BMW has started to tease their hybrid open top i8 with this video.
The camouflage might seem a bit unnecessary on a car that’s already mainly familiar, but it is hiding the expected cosmetic tweaks due on the i8 Coupe shortly.
What it’s also hiding is a boost in power from the electric and ICE motors, as well as a bigger, more efficient, battery pack to give the i8 both improved performance and improved range.
From what we can see, it looks like the i8 Roadster is going to get some kind of folding hard-top roof panel – like the McLaren Roadsters – as well as buttresses behind the driver and passenger, and will be a pure two-seater.
No doubt, now the tease for the i8 Roadster has started, there will be more to come before its Frankfurt debut.
