Caterham technicians plan to turn this pile of parts in to a car in six hours
A team of technicians from Caterham Cars are planning to build a Caterham Seven in six hours at the Regent Street Motor Show – just as Top Gear did in 2006.
There aren’t actually that many cars you can buy as a kit to build yourself, but the Caterham Seven is one of those.
Back in 2006, Top Gear got Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond to try and build a Caterham Seven from scratch in the time it took the Stig to drive from the Caterham factory in Surrey to Knockhill Racing Circuit in Scotland. The boys succeeded, but only because The Stig got pulled for speeding by the Scottish Rozzers en route.
Now, a team from Caterham Cars is planning to do the same – only more professionally and in six hours – at the 2015 Regent Street Motor Show on 31 October.
Ian Rea, Caterham’s Marketing Manager, said:
The idea behind building a car at the Show is to demonstrate how uncomplicated it is to build a Caterham – although we don’t expect every customer to complete the job in a mere six hours!
The Caterham build will be just one of a number of happenings at the show – which is free to attend – that make it worth the trip, with others including more than 100 veteran cars (many readying themselves for the London to Brighton Rally the next day) and the James Bond Aston Martin DB10 from SPECTRE.
The Regent Street Motor Show runs from 10.30 until 16.00 on Saturday 31 October 2015 and is expected to attract around 350,000 visitors.
