The new Electric Volvo XC40 and its blanked-off grille
The electric Volvo XC40 is back for another tease, two weeks ahead of its official reveal, but nothing official yet on its electric powertrain.
Last week we had the first tease from Volvo for the electric XC40 – due to be revealed on 16 October – but, perhaps a little surprisingly, nothing on its electric powertrain.Instead, Volvo proceeded to tell us how hard they’ve been working to make the new electric XC40 as safe as it could be, with strengthened bits and integrations making the XC40 EV probably the safest electric car you can buy.
Now we’re back for the second of Volvo’s new EV teases, and this time we still don’t get anything on its powertrain, but we do get to see how its looks will differentiate it from the ICE XC40s.
The principal change, shown in the image above, is that the electric version of the XC40 will lose its grill – because it doesn’t need the cooling air – to be replaced by a single closed panel housing the ADAS gubbins.
Other changes include a new alloy design, in 19″ and 20″, and a new Sage Green metallic paint job as one of the eight colour choices, but the electric XC40 still retains the black contrast roof as standard.
Aside from the minor visual tweaks, you also get a ‘Frunk’ where the ICE would normally be, which isn’t huge (it’s around 30 litres) but is enough for a bag of shopping, and a new driver interface specifically designed for electric cars.
Expect tease three for the electric Volvo XC40 in a few more days, when we might find out what’s on offer apart from a 78kWh battery pack.
