Ferrari Roma
The Ferrari Roma arrives as anew Ferrari model, sitting above the Portofino as a front-engined V8 aimed at cars like the Aston Martin Vantage and AMG GT.
There’s a new Ferrari on the block, sitting one up from the Ferrari Portofino and based on it, with a V8 engine at the front and styling which looks very like the Aston Martin DB10 to our eyes. Say hello to the new Ferrari Roma. The starting point for the Roma is very much the Portofino, with the same wheelbase and same 3.9 litre V8, although here in the Roma it’s a bit livelier with 611bhp and, with a lower weight, a bit quicker too – 0-62mph comes up in 3.4 seconds.
There are hints of the 250 in the design – and we can see 612 too – but, to our eyes, it’s very close in looks to the Aston Martin DB10 AML built for James Bond with clean lines and a certain elegance. Which is no bad thing.
Inside it’s a tale of two cockpits – one for the driver and one for the passenger – with a big center console separating the two, probably optional seats in the back, a typically Ferrari steering wheel with a plethora of buttons, a trio of screens for instruments, infotainment and front passenger and a gear selector for the eight-speed auto pretending to be an open-gate manual.
Expect the Ferrari Roma to cost a bit more than the Portofino.
