James Bond Aston Martin DB10 up for auction
The Aston Martin DB10 was created just for the James Bond SPECTRE film, and now one of the DB10s is going up for auction.
It always seemed likely Aston Martin would skip model designations from DB9 to DB11 – just as they did from DB7 to DB9 – so buyers don’t get confused about what’s possibly lurking under the bonnet. But there is an Aston Martin DB10, and it was created for the James Bond SPECTRE outing, with 10 cars built by AML just for the film. And now one of those is going up for auction at Christie’s.
The Aston Martin DB10 up for grabs is one of two built for show purposes – rather than to be used and abused on-screen – and is the car displayed at the world premier of Spectre at the Royal Albert Hall.
It comes complete with a special plaque signed by Daniel Craig, and will be sold at a live Christie’s auction on 18 February 2016, with all proceeds going to Médecins Sans Frontières and other charities, and a guide price of £1-1.5 million.
If your pockets are deep enough, the James Bond DB10 could be an interesting punt. But there are a few things you need to remember.
You won’t be buying the rights to the DB10 – just the car – and there must be a possibility that the other show DB10, or even one or more of the stunt cars, could turn up on the market at some point.
You also need to realise that although the DB10 is a proper car with the 4.7 litre V8 from the Vantage (which is pretty much what the DB10 is under the skin), a carbon fibre exterior and hand made interior, it’s not a road car.
The DB10 isn’t homologated, certified or approved for use on the road, so unless you have your own vast estate – or track – the DB10 is just going to be a static display, not a weekend posing toy.
The auction of the James Bond Aston Martin DB10 is on the 18 February. More details on Christie’s website.
