The Ford Focus RS is off to Australia
Better late than never, Ford has decided that the Australians are worthy after all, and they will get an allocation of 315 Focus RS by the end of 2010.
The Yanks aren’t impressed that Ford hasn’t seen fit to take the most impressive RS in years – the Focus RS – to the Land of the Free. They’re going to be even less impressed now Ford has decided that the Land Down Under is to get the Focus RS – albeit in small numbers and so late we’ll almost get the 2011 Ford Focus here before they get the Focus RS there. Still, better late than never.
There will be just one highly-specced version of the Focus RS available in Australia and it will come in the default green, blue or white (or, to be accurate, Ultimate Green, Performance Blue and Frozen White) and the numbers are to be limited to just 315 cars, which will start to arrive in Australia in October. This isn’t the bonkers RS 500 version, but the standard 300bhp RS.
The price in Australia for the Focus RS is a rather painful $59,900, which comes in at around £34.5k at today’s exchange rate, pretty much what we’ll be paying for the Focus RS 500 with its matt vinyl wrap and extra horses. But it looks like that high price has more to do with Australian taxation than any wish by Ford to cash-in on the scarcity of the RS in Australia.
The Focus RS may even turn the Aussies off the V8 Holdens. But somehow we doubt it.
