Ford has revealed the 2010 Ford Focus ECOnetic at Frankfurt, with 99g/km emissions and 74mpg.
Was this on our radar? Not sure, but it’s no huge surprise that Ford has produced a new ECOnetic Focus. The existing ECOnetic models do offer great economy, and we found the Fiesta ECOnetic to be a great car when we reviewed it. But Ford has gone further with the new Focus ECOnetic, introducing addtional ‘Eco’ technology that conspires to bring emissions down to the car maker’s favourite 99g/km.For the first time Ford has made Start-Stop an option, which was something we thought should be added to the Fiesta ECOnetic when we had it. The Focus ECOnetic also benefits from Smart Regenerative Charging and something called Tension FEAD (no, we had no idea either, but apparently it reduces friction) which help make the new ECOnetic Focus more economical and less polluting.
With Stop-Start fitted to the 1.6 litre Duratorq TDCi the Focus manages to hit the magic 99g/km mark. It will also average over 74mpg, a figure we know to be achievable from our run with the Fiesta ECOnetic, even if you’re bored silly trying to achieve it.
Ford are also adding a none stop-start version to hit a lower cost-point, but even that manages 70mpg and 104g/km CO2 emissions.
Impressive economy and emission figures. Ford has sent us a Press Release on the 2010 Focus EConetic which gives you all the nuts and bolts detail.
The 2010 Ford Focus ECOnetic will be available in the UK from early 2010.
