Ford of Britain is now 99 years old, and its Heritage Collection of Cars continues to grow with the 100th example being added this week – the Focus RS.
It would be nice to think that Ford has assiduously compiled its Heritage collection over the lifetime of the company to reflect the milestones reached and the cars that have attained iconic status. But in fact the collection is really a result of pulling together a range of cars owned by different parts of Ford in the UK in the sixties, adding a Model T and throwing in donated cars and company owned vehicles at different points.
The collection now includes such delights as a Lotus Cortina, Escort Mexico, Mk I Granada Estate and a Mk II Capri 1.6L. But this collection isn’t just a static museum display for those fortunate enough to be invited to view. It’s a living, working testament to Ford’s Heritage in the UK, and the cars in the collection are driven regularly at special events and by the media (we drove the Escort Mexico a few months ago).
Ford has now added the 100th car to its collection – a Focus RS. It may seem a bit soon to stick a car that is very much current in to the Heritage collection, but it’s a reflection of the Focus RS abilities that it joins its predecessors – such as the Escort Cosworth – so soon after its launch.
It also means we will get the chance to drive the Focus RS regularly in the future. To which we object not one dot.
