Hamilton on POLE at Brazilian Grand Prix – Vettel has a strop

Lewis Hamilton is on pole position for the 2018 Brazilian Grand Prix, with Vettel in second despite a fine for throwing a strop.

The game may be over for the 2018 F1 driver’s title, but Lewis Hamilton is still fighting hard and Sebastian Vettel is still getting rattled.

Hamilton beat Vettel to pole in a final session which saw the threat of rain rattle Vettel as he was summoned for a weigh-in, driving at a steward trying to keep him in place and breaking the scales as he drove off at speed, and getting a 25k Euro fine for his antics. But no grid penalty.

Hamilton squeezed his pole from Vettel in Q3, with Bottas in third, Raikkonen in fourth and the Red Bulls of Verstappen and Ricciardo in fifth and sixth, although Ricciardo has a five place grid penalty for the race.

Behind the dominant trio of Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull, Ericsson took a very credible seventh for Sauber, with team mate Leclerc qualifying eighth, Romain Grosjean in ninth and Pierre Gasly in tenth.

As Alonso’s F1 career fades away at McLaren he had another miserable outing, managing only 18th, with team mate Vandoorne starting dead last again, separated from Alonso by just the Williams of Stroll.
