The Hyundai ix25 has arrived in concept form at the Beijing Motor Show, ahead of a production debut later in 2014, previewing a new compact SUV from Hyundai.
There’s been talk of a Hyundai ix25 for a couple of years now as the compact SUV market continues to grow and Hyundai’s smallest SUV offering remains the ix35.
At 4270mm long, the ix25 is about the same length as the new Mercedes A Class, but narrower and taller, and comes fitted with a 2.0 litre ‘Nu’ engine. although production versions for China are likely to come with regular 1.6 litre petrol engines.
Hyundai are aiming the ix25 at a younger market and say they’re planning a range of marketing strategies to encourage younger buyers to flock in to Hyundai’s showrooms for the ix25’s mix of style and practicality.
Hyundai’s President, Sung Kee Choi, said:
Hyundai Motor has grown into a leading automaker in China through continuous innovation for the past 11 years.
Hyundai Motor is now poised for a new challenge to become the most-loved brand by Chinese customers, with high-quality models such as the ix25 SUV, which is strategically-developed for China.
Hyundai are aiming the new ix25 at China, but it seems highly unlikely that will remain the only market for Hyundai’s most compact SUV to date.
Add in a choice of diesel engines and the ix25 will find a big market in the UK and Europe, something we’d expect to happen in 2015, after its initial launch in China.
