Hyundai are to supply 1.7 litre ix35s – free of charge – to those on the waiting list for the Hyundai ix35 2.0 litre diesel to cut waiting lists.
It shouldn’t come as a big surprise that the Hyundai ix35 has something of a waiting list. In fact, considering the decent specification, Euro-centric design and very competitive price, it would be odd if there were no waiting list.
But it seems the ix35 2.0 litre diesel is exceptionally popular (it’s the pick of the range) and waiting lists have become very long indeed. So Hyundai has come up with a solution which should do more than appease the 200 buyers at the front of a very long cue for Hyundai’s latest softroader.
Hyundai will sell these buyers a 1.7 litre diesel version of the ix35 and, when their 2.0 litre version is finally ready, they will buy back the 1.7 litre version at the original purchase price and let them have the 2.0 litre for the ordered price. Not only that, Hyundai will chip in £300 to help pay any costs associated with the swap.
It’s an incredibly strong move by Hyundai and one which will be looked at closely by the industry. It will leave Hyundai with a few hundred 1.7 litre diesel ix35s that might have to be shifted at a small loss, but that pales in to insignificance compared to the good PR Hyundai will get.
Text-book PR.
