Hyundai KONA going Volcanic Landscape hunting in the UK
The KONA 10 is a plan by Hyundai to take the new KONA SUV, in the hands of Adventurer Sophie Radcliffe, to 10 of the UK’s most iconic volcanic landscapes in under 72 hours.
The new Hyundai Kona SUV may be a proper little Urban Warrior SUV, but proving to a car buying public it’s a great little ‘Adventure’ car too isn’t necessarily the easiest thing to do.But it looks like someone at Hyundai PR has been off doing a night school class in Volcanology, and has become fascinated by how historic volcanic eruptions have created big chunks of the UK’s landscape. So we’re getting the KONA 10 Challenge.
KONA 10 is a driving challenge for the new baby SUV, with Adventurer Sophie Radcliffe enlisted to blat round some of the UK’s most impressive volcanic landscapes in under 72 hours in a Kona.
Sophie will drive the Kona as far as she can at each of the locations, and do the rest on foot, climbing and cycling, with the only shuteye breaks coming in the back of the car.
The route will take the Kona from Snowdon to the Isle of Skye, taking in impressive landscapes like Scafell Pike, Glen Coe, Giant’s Causeway, Ben Nevis and more.
It’s hard to imagine now that the UK has been a hotbed of volcanic activity in the past, but much of our most impressive landscapes have been formed by volcanic explosions and the moving of mighty lumps of landscape.
Take Ben Nevis, for example, which is thought to have been created by by an enormous ancient volcano collapsing in on itself, evidenced by the normally subterranean light coloured granites sitting alongside the basaltic lavas at the summit.
The whole KONA 10 challenge, apart from highlighting the Kona’s versatility, is raising money for Stand Up to Cancer, so it might be an idea to pop over to the KONA 10 page at Cancer Research and pledge a few bob.
