It’s the new BMW X6
The new BMW X6 is revealed ahead of a public debut in Frankfurt, the ‘coupe’ take on the new BMW X5, and it gets an illuminated grille.
This time last year we got the new BMW X5, so it’s logical that a new BMW X6 – essentially a ‘Coupe’ take on the X5 – should arrive in due course. And it has.Revealed ahead of a public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the new X6 is more of the same, with X5 underpinnings, an X5 front end and a coupe roofline with blunt back end. And it’s still not a looker.
That blunt back end gets a new set of tail lights that stretch most of the width of the car, and the front end get another ‘subtle’ take on the Kidney Grille, and in case it’s not bold enough it also now lights up. Just in case other road users might miss it.
Engine options are familiar, with a pair of diesels and a pair of petrols, with the X6 xDrive 30d Sport (£59,340) kicking off the range and offering 262bhp, and its petrol equivalent – the £60,320 X6 xDrive 40i Sport – offering 336bhp and able to get to 62mph in 5.6 seconds.
At the top of the range, for now, it’s the M50d and M50i, with the M50d (£74,335) getting a 3.0 litre quad turbo with 395bhp and good for 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds and the M50i (£76,860) delivering 524bhp from its 4.4 litre twin turbo V8 and hitting 62mph in 4.3 seconds.
Whichever engine you choose you get xDrive four-wheel drive and an eight-speed auto and leather trim and, depending on model, adaptive suspension, gesture control, wireless charging and 19-21″ alloys, with the M models getting M alloys, M Sport Braking, M Sport exhaust, M Sport Steering Wheel, and the option of the M Performance Spec with 22″ alloys and more ‘M’ stuff.
Despite a public reveal not due until September, you can now order the new X6 from your local BMW dealers.
