Lamborghini Urus SUV will get 650bhp from its 4.0 litre V8 confirms Lamborghini boss

The Lamborghini Urus SUV – Lamborghini’s first SUV for a generation and due in 2018 – will deliver 650bhp from its 4.0 litre engine Lamborghini confirms.

It’s more than a year since Lamborghini revealed that the 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 destined for the new Urus SUV will deliver more than 600bhp, but now Lamborghini boss Stefano Domenicali has been a bit more specific.

In an interview, the Lamborghini boss has said the urus will actually produce 650bhp (well, we assume that’s actually 650 PS – 641bhp in old money) which will make it more powerful than the VW Group’s other ‘Premium’ SUVs. The Bentley Bentayga has to do with around 600bhp from its W12, and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S a paltry 562bhp from its turbo V8.

That matches the promise made by Lamborghini’s R&D boss, who declared the Urus would be the most powerful SUV in the VW stable, so as he got that right we assume his assertion that the Urus will also be sub-4.0 seconds to 62mph is accurate too.

But its seems the Urus will not only be the most powerful, and quickest, VW Group SUV, but that it will probably be the most expensive too. Rumours suggest Lamborghini want it to arrive just under the €200k mark, which means a UK price for the Urus starting around £170k.

Lamborghini are planning to deliver the production version of the Urus later this year – with a plug-in hybrid Urus to follow – and expect to build 1.000 units in 2018.

The expectation – no doubt buoyed by Bentley’s success with the Bentayga – is that will rise to 3,500 units a year subsequently, a level which will see Lamborghini’s production double in the coming years.
