Lewis Hamilton WINS the Spanish Grand Prix and Bottas takes second spot
Lewis Hamilton has won the 2018 Spanish Grand Prix from team mate Bottas, with Max Verstappen putting his Red Bull in to third place. Sebastian Vettel finished fourth.
Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes are now properly settled in to the 2018 Grand Prix season – and it’s showing. Not only has Hamilton won the Spanish Grand Prix, team mate Bottas has taken second place – 20 seconds behind Hamilton – followed by Max Verstappen in the Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel in the Ferrari.Hamilton dominated the race from start to finish, but Bottas had to fight a bit harder after he lost his second place start to Vettel at the start, and that’s the way it stayed even after the firts pit stops.
But Ferrari decided to stop for a second set of tyres is the last stint, a move which put Vettel down to fourth, and with Raikkonen out after his engine gave up the ghost it was a small points haul for Ferrari.
But Ferrari’s misjudgement saw Max Verstappen take advantage – despite an earlier coming together with Lance Stroll (him again) resulting in a virtual safety car – to take his first podium of 2018 for Red Bull.
Behind the top four it was Daniel Ricciardo in a fairly distant fifth spot – although on the same lap as the top four at the finish – with the Haas of Magnussen in sixth, although his team mate, Romain Grosjean, managed to spin out on the opening lap.
Carlo Sainz managed seventh place in his home Grand Prix, and Alonso – also at his home Grand Prix – managed to bring his McLaren home exactly where it started in eighth place, with Perez in the Force India dn LeClerc in the Sauber finishing off the points places.
