Lexus LF-30 Electric Concept
The Lexus LF-30 Electric Concept is revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show showcasing very much the future direction for Lexus EVs.
There are concept cars that are almost production-ready looking, and then there are concept cars that are flights of future fantasy. And this, the Lexus LF-30 Electric Concept, falls firmly in to the latter camp. That said, the LF-30 does point at where Lexus is heading with electric cars, although much of what’s on offer in the LF-30 is looking a decade in to the future.
The electric motors on the LF-30 deliver 4Wd, but that’s 4WD with a motor one each wheel promising far more control and agility – and driving pleasure – as well as steer-by-wire, with a 110kWh battery, range of around 300 miles 62mph in 3.8 seconds.
Design is Lexus Concept ‘Plus’, the usual slightly barking look with jarring lines, but you can see where they’re heading with design, with the gaping nose rising to the back of the car, big double gullwing doors and a high stubby tail, with proportions the freedom of an EV powertrain allows.
But whilst this futuristic Lexus Concept doesn’t preview a new model, there is an electric Lexus coming in 2020, although it’s expected to be an electric take on an existing Lexus model, and not a new BEV on a new platform. That will come in a couple of years.
But Lexus are now definitely moving down the EV route with intent.
