Lexus pitch big BIK savings on new RX 450h

The new Lexus RX 450h hybrid offers big BIK savings for company car drivers, something Lexus are keen to point out.

Every car needs a USP to get its message across to potential buyers; a hook to land a sale.

Depending on your wants, that USP could be anything from performance and style to running costs and boot space. For Lexus, certainly with the new RX 450h, it’s the savings on offer for company car drivers.

The BIK (benefit in kind) rates of tax has made the company car a far less valuable perk than it once was. With company car drivers facing bills based on their car’s CO2 emissions, Lexus has its USP nicely mapped out with the new RX 450h.

With CO2 emissions at 145g/k, the RX 450h attracts a BIK rate of just 20 per cent. Compare that to cars like the X5 xDrive 4.0d, ML 350 CDi, XC90 D5 and Q7 3.0 TDi – all with rates over 30 per cent – and the savings are significant.

Lexus, as you would expect, are keen to point out that the RX 450h could save a company car driver £10,560 in a three year period over a Range Rover Sport SDV6.

If all that matters to you is how low your BIK bill is – and you want a luxury SUV – the RX 450h is therefore a no-brainer. Of course, if you factor other stuff in – like style, dynamics, perception and appeal – the RX 450h may very well not be the choice.

But that’s the beauty of a USP – it’s wonderfully selective.
