The Christmas car for 2012 from US retailer Neimann Marcus – the new McLaren 12C Spider – sold out in just two hours.

And it didn’t take long for the 12C Spider to sell out when it went on sale this week, with all 12 cars snapped up in just two hours – all $4.25 million dollars worth.
Neiman Marcus were offering their 12C Spiders at a premium of $85k over McLaren’s US list price for the 12C Spider of $269k, but they were throwing in flights to the UK to have dinner with McLaren’s Ron Dennis and a set of custom luggage. A veritable bargain.
But there’s every chance that the buyers of the Neiman Marcus McLarens have really bagged something of a bargain. it looks like the 12C Spider is an exceptional car and there’s every chance – especially as McLaren reckon 80 per cent of buyers will now opt for the Spider version of the 12C – that it’s going to be in short supply.
So unless you’re a McLaren favoured one and already got an early slot, you’ll probably end up paying a premium in the region of the additional amount Neiman Marcus were asking to get your hands on a 12C spider in any reasonable timeframe – and you won’t be getting the dinner with Ron or the luggage.
