The first model in McLaren’s Sports Series – which sits below the 650S – is due to debut at the New York Motor Show and will be called the McLaren 570S.
McLaren has been busy teasing their new, entry-level Sports Series car recently – ahead of a planned debut at the New York Motor Show in April – with various camouflaged shots and a new image (above) of the car’s flanks.
But now, thanks to De Telegraaf, it looks like the cat’s out of the bag on the name – McLaren 570S.
If the name is right – and it makes sense – then the new baby McLaren will come with 570PS and performance that should see it hit 62mph in under 4 seconds, thanks to the de-tuned version of the turbo 3.8 litre V8 found in the 650S (and even the P1).
Under the skin, the 570S won’t be quite the star the 650S is, but it will still have a potent V8, 7-speed Graziano gearbox and carbon fibre tub.
Once the 570S coupe arrive in New York, expect to see further Sport Series models rolled out, with perhaps a lower-powered version for Asian markets, a Spider convertible, a hard-core track-focused version and even a 570S GT with room for more luggage.
Expected to go on sale later in 2015, the McLaren 570S will cost at least £120,000, with McLaren hoping to sell around 2,500 a year.
