McLaren has confirmed that their new Sports Series range kicks off with the 570S Coupe, which will debut at the New York Motor Show next week.
The entry-level McLaren has been on its way for some time, and just last week we reported it will be called the McLaren 570S. And this afternoon McLaren has confirmed that report was right.
Just like the 650S (and the new 675LT) the badge gives away the power on offer – in the 570S’s case it’s 570PS, or 562bhp – from McLaren’s ubiquitous 3.8 litre V8.
Just like its stable mates, the 570S will be mid-engined with a carbon fibre tub and, although the launch car is a coupe, it won’t be long before we get a 570S Spider.
That will be joined at a later date by a 570S GT that offers more space for ‘stuff’, and it’s likely we’ll also see a Long Tail version at some point, mimicking what McLaren has done with the 675LT.
It means a full suite of McLaren models will finally be on offer, and with the new 570S expected to start somewhere in the £125-150k range, McLaren’s sales should jump significantly as it takes on supercars from the mainstream like high-end 911s and the new Audi R8.
Full details on the McLaren 570S will be revealed at the New York Motor Show next week.
