The tease begins for the next AMG 35 model from Mercedes – the Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 – as Mercedes extends its warm AMG A-Class range.

Mercedes is determined to squeeze a niche model out of every model in its range, and apart from its ever proliferating SUV range, it’s managing to squeeze more and more models out of its entry-level A-Class range.

This time round for the A-Class we don’t just get the regular A-Class Hatch and swoopy CLA, buy we also get the A-Class saloon. Which does seem overkill.

Still, having decided to sell the A-Class saloon as well as the CLA, Mercedes wasn’t going to miss out on endowing the CLA with the same entry-level AMG offering as the A35 and A35 Saloon. So, quelle surprise, we’re getting the Mercedes-AMG CLA 35. And despite its incredible similarities to the already revealed A35 Saloon, Mercedes thinks its worthy of a tease campaign.

Mercedes has deliver a single teaser image (above) of the CLA 35, and a single tease video (below) to ramp up excitement, but there will be no surprises when it’s actually revealed. It’ll be the CLA with the same tweaks as the A35.

But that’s not to denigrate its appeal as a good-looking, swift and able compact saloon (sorry, four-door coupe), with its 302bhp, 4MATIC four-wheel drive and 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds performance. And we know Mercedes think it’s a ‘fun 35’ because the launch car has the same bright yellow paint job as the A35 Hatch launch car, unlike the ‘sensible’ A35 saloon’s more sombre paint.

Expect another tease or three before Mercedes ‘surprises’ us with the AMG CLA 35.
