Mercedes CLA 45 AMG Edition 1 revealed

Ahead of going on sale in the autumn, the launch version of the new CLA45 has been revealed – the Mercedes CLA 45 AMG Edition 1.

Launch editions are a way to tempt buyers in to a new model in quick sticks, so Mercedes has revealed the launch model for the new CLA45 – the Mercedes CLA 45 AMG Edition 1.

Frankly, we’d be surprised if MB has any real trouble finding buyers for the CLA 45 AMG, but a launch edition with extra goodies is always a ‘nice to have’, and the CLA45 version looks appealing.

The changes aren’t huge for the Edition 1, but they do include a gloss black spoiler at the back, graphite grey side stripes, a set of 19″ matte black alloys and red detailing for the mirrors, wheels and grill.

There are interior tweaks too with Artico/Dinamica sports seats, a leather/Dinamica steering wheel, Artico on the dash, red contrast stitching, AMG mats and a smattering of ‘Edition 1’ badges.

Under the skin Mercedes hasn’t given the Edition 1 any more power, but it hardly needs it.

Featuring the same 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the A45 AMG – with 355bhp and 332lb/ft of torque – the CLA45 AMG can get to 62mph in 4.6 seconds and get its power down effectively thanks to the standard Mercedes 4MATIC 4WD.

The new CLA range doesn’t go on sale until September, and with the A45 AMG costing just the right side of £40k we’re expecting the CLA45 AMG to cost just the wrong side. Expect a premium of a few thousand pounds for the Edition 1.
