MINI are taking a luxury MINI concept to the Shanghai Motor Show in April – the MINI Goodwood Concept – which is effectively a MINI Rolls Royce.
It could be argued that we could make up any concept for a MINI and, if we were to wait long enough, MINI would get round to fulfilling our prophecy. A bit like the old story about monkeys and typewriters.
Back in November 2009 we reported that MINI were to make a Rolls Royce Limited Edition. A MINI reminiscent of those ‘Posh’ Minis of the ‘6os from people like Wood & Picket. Minis that were so beloved of celebs like Peter Sellers and George Harrison (both of theirs were Radford Minis). Turns out we were right.
According to Autoblog – who apparently had it from the horse’s mouth at Geneva – MINI are to take a Concept to the Shanghai Motor Show (it would perhaps be more newsworthy if MINI weren’t taking one) which will be called the MINI Goodwood Concept.
Why MINI Goodwood, you may ask? Because Rolls Royce build their cars on the Goodwood Estate, that’s why.
The MINI Goodwood will get a range of accouterments befitting a coachbuilt MINI and, if our original story is correct, have them fitted at Rolls Royce factory before shipping out to customers.
There’s no word yet on just how extensive the customisation options will be on the MINI Goodwood, although we doubt they will reach the dizzy heights they did in the ’60s.
Top end Radford Minis – like the Mini Cooper S Radford de Ville with all the options – could cost as much as £5,000 in the 1960s. That’s about eight times the cost of the standard Mini Cooper S – over £100k at today’s money.
More detail when we get it.
