The new Aston Martin Vantage Roadster – the drop-top Vantage – makes its first appearance ahead of a production debut expected in spring 2020.
It’s almost two years since the new Aston Martin Vantage arrived as Aston’s entry-level model got new looks and new Mercedes engines – and managed to sell out its first year’s run – followed a few months ago by the Aston Martin Vantage AMR Limited Edition complete with manual gearbox.
Now it’s time to roll out the next instalment of Vantage goodness with the Vantage Roadster, so Aston Martin has decided to give us a pit of a sneak peek ahead of an official production debut next spring (above).
The bit that matters is the roof and back end, and as you can see in the photo that means the Vantage’s sloping back end has give way to a truncated roof, covered (if you wish) by a canvas rood, with a new flat boot extending back to the retained light bar and spoiler.
Aston isn’t saying what’s under the bonnet of the Vantage Roadster, but it’s not a stretch of the imagination to expect it to be the exact same Mercedes 4.0 litre V8 twin turbo you find in the tin-top Vantage, complete with 503 AMG horses.
In the Vantage Roadster you can expect it to be a tenth or three slower to 62mph thanks to the RSJs holding the canvas-topped car together adding weight, but it’ll still be lively.
Not officially arriving until spring 2020, expect the Aston Martin Vantage Roadster to cost around £130k.
