New Audi A6 AVANT joins the A6 Saloon
Following hot on the heels of the A6 saloon, the new Audi A6 Avant mimics what the new A6 offers but with a shed on the back for added practicality and style.
The new Audi A6 saloon arrived in February as Audi overhauled their premium saloon to keep up with the Mercedes E Class, and now it’s the turn of the A6 Estate – the 2018 Audi A6 Avant – to get a very similar makeover. The new A6 Avant is a bit bigger all round than the outgoing model, and much of that is down to a longer wheelbase delivering more passenger room in the back, although the boot space stays the same and, possibly, gets a bit more restricted by the more sloping back window.
From the front its pure A6 saloon, but the back end of the Avant gets a roof spoiler and a chrome strip, as well as more aggressive bumpers if you’re opting for an S Line model.
That back end is pretty much the only difference from the saloon, and the interior, as long as you don’t look over your shoulder, is identical.
That means Audi’s dual screen infotainment, that 12.3″ digital instrument cluster, advanced parking, heads-up and all the other goodies the saloon offers.
Just like the interior – and most of the exterior – the engine options are the same as the saloon, with the new nomenclature – 50 TDI, 55 TFSI… – making its place in the range hierarchy clear, and there’s a 48v mild hybrid system across the range. There’s also the same choice of suspension setups – from steel to Air.
The new Audi A6 Avant goes on sale in the UK in the summer.
