New BMW X2 caught testing at the Nurburgring
The BMW X2 – previewed last year by the X2 Concept – is BMW’s sporty coupe take on the X1 caught testing on video at the Nurburgring.
Just as Land Rover had a ‘gap’ to fill in its range between the Evoque and Sport (and has now filled it with the new Velar), BMW has a gap in its range between the X1 and X3 which will, to no one’s surprise, be the BMW X2.The BMW X2 has already been previewed with the X2 Concept at last year’s Paris Motor Show, but with a debut of the production X2 expected at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year, BMW is busy making sure it works at the Nurburgring.
Frankly, we’re not entirely sure this video of the X2 blatting round the Nurburgring shows a car at the cutting edge of dynamics, but, camouflage apart, it does look close to last year’s concept, albeit with a bit of toning down.
When the X2 does debut, we can probably expect it to deliver a range of engine options similar to those available in the X1, which means a range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, and four-wheel drive on most models but front-wheel drive at entry level.
As for prices for the new BMW X2, it doesn’t take an accountant to work out that BMW will want a premium over the X1, which currently starts at around £28k, rising to £38k. Expect a premium of around £2-3k for the X2.
