New BMW X5 OFFICIALLY previewed
The new 2019 BMW X5 is on the way, and BMW are previewing its arrival with ‘official’ spy photos of the new X5 testing, including demonstrating its new off-road prowess.
There’s a new BMW X5 on the way – likely to arrive at the Paris Motor Show in the Autumn – and BMW are keen you can see it’s a big improvement on the current car, and that it comes with proper off-road chops too.BMW are busy testing the new X5 all over the shop, including at the Nurburgring and the Talladega track in Alabama, but they’re also making sure it can do what no previous X5 has done and be able to go off-road with conviction and are playing in Sweden in the snow, in South Africa on gravel tracks and in desert dunes too.
BMW say the new suspension and chassis systems on the lighter X5 – thanks to its CLAR underpinnings – and new off-road package which will make the X5 properly capable and, with a press of a button, set the X5 up for snow, sand, rocks or gravel roads.
That should make the new X5 a real competitor for, in particular, the Porsche Cayenne, with a range-topping X5 M expected to get the new M5’s powerplant with pushing on for 600bhp, an X5 xDrive50i with 460bhp to take on the Cayenne GTS and the plug-in hybrid xDrive40e too, as well as a range of diesel engine options.
With the new BMW X5 due in the Autumn and the new BMW X7 in December, 2018 is going to be a bit of a BMW SUV-fest.
