The Infiniti Q30 – Infiniti’s new compact hatch based on the Mercedes A-Class – finally gets its official reveal in Frankfurt before going on sale in the UK.
The Infiniti Q30 is Infiniti’s big hope for a real jump in sales and brand awareness, and they’ve been so busy getting the world involved with their new compact hatch – from the Q30 Concept to the arrival of the first Q30 photo – that it’s hard to think of the Q30’s arrival at Frankfurt as a debut. But it is.Under the skin of Infiniti’s bodywork lies the Mercedes A Class – which is no bad thing – and looks much like the concept, and exactly like the only official photo we’ve had so far (hardly a surprise). You also don’t have to look too hard to see bits of the A-Class carrying over to the Q30 both on the body and the interior.
The Q30 will be offered in three trim levels – SE, Sport and Premium – and a choice of five engines, both petrol and diesel options, and a choice of a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG gearboxes.
Engine options (which will be familiar to A Class owners) include a 1.6 litre petrol with 120bhp or 154bhp, a 2.0 litre petrol with 208bhp and both 1.5 and 2.0 litre diesel engines.
The entry-level SE model kicks off the range, but Infiniti clearly expect buyers to opt for the Sport and Premium models, with the Q30 Premium offering body coloured heated door mirrors, LED fogs, 18″ alloys and rectangular exhaust pipes, and the Q30 Sport getting sportier bumpers – front and back – gloss black grill, lower suspension, bigger sills and 19″ alloys.
More detail on spec and trim levels – and prices – will be revealed ahead of an on sale date expected, in the UK, to be January 2016.

I said it when I saw that first photo – this is one ugly car – and having seen other pictures, my opinion hasn’t altered. It has swoops, bends and cutouts all over the place seemingly without any particular design plan. It looks as though the designers were at a complete loss as to how the car should look and have finished with an incoherent mess.
