Ahead of the reveal of the new Jaguar XE at the Paris Motor Show next week, Jaguar has revealed more details on the range of new Ingenium 2.0 litre engines.
Jaguar XE 2.0 litre diesel Ingenium engine – from 99g/km
Unlike the new Land Rover Discovery Sport – which makes do with the current outsourced 2.2 litre diesel engine – the new Jaguar XE is getting JLR’s all-new range of Ingenium engines from launch.
Built at Jaguar’s new engine plant – in which JLR has invested £500 million – the new Ingenium engines are a clean-sheet design, as light and efficient as possible and capable of delivering an impressive blend of power and torque.
The new XE gets two versions of the 2.0 litre Ingenium diesel engine, with the 161 bhp version offering headline official economy of 75mpg and emissions of 99g/km and the 177bhp version getting one of the highest torque figures in its class at 317lb/ft.
Also joining the party will be 2.0 litre petrol versions of the Ingenium engine as well as the supercharged V6 for the (for now) range-topping Jaguar XE S.
The figures Jaguar has revealed for the new Ingenium diesel engines are impressive, although they do, on the face of it, seem to fall a bit behind Volvo’s new Drive-E engines, where the 2.0 litre diesel S60 D4 gets a very similar 178bhp and 295lb/ft of torque but manages, at least with the manual ‘box, to offer 99g/km emissions – the same as Jaguar’s lower-powered Ingenium lump. Still, the proof will be in the driving.
The new Jaguar XE will be revealed in full next week at the Paris Motor Show.
