New Jaguar XF Sportbrake WILL arrive in 2017
Ian Callum, Jaguar’s design boss, has now made it clear that a Sportbrake version of the new Jaguar XF will arrive, and it looks like an SVR version too.
Ian Callum’s musings on Jaguar Estate cars of late have got lovers of Jaguars – and estate cars – a bit hot under the collar, especially as it was starting to look like Jaguar had given up on estates in favour of crossovers like the new F-Pace.The idea of a Jaguar XE Estate was quashed by Callum some time ago, but in a recent interview it was interpreted that he was also saying an XF Sportbrake was a non-starter too, although he’s since been at pains to deny that.
Now, in an interview with Auto Express, Ian Callum has taken the opportunity to clear things up, and make it clear there will be a new XF Sportbrake – and it looks likely to arrive next year.
That’s good news for those who love Jaguar’s XF estate (although those wanting an XE estate will be peeved Jaguar see no business case for it), but it does look like Jaguar are going to take the new Sportbrake a bit further than the old model.
It may be AE speculation on the back of the interview – or Ian Callum dropping heavy hints – but apart from Sportbrakes offering a broadly similar range of engines and trims as the saloon, it seems we can look forward to a range-topping SVR model too to take the fight to cars like the Audi RS6 Avant.
Now that will be and interesting Sportbrake.
