The rumour is that McLaren will reveal their new range-topping hypercar – a successor to the iconic McLaren F1 – at the Monaco Grand Prix in May, although McLaren hasn’t confirmed it.
Originally, we didn’t expect McLaren to build their new Hypercar until 2014, but as we reported a couple of years ago McLaren’s new dealer network are eager to have more than just the MP4-12C to play with so McLaren has put a hurry-up on the new F1’s development.
But it’s not just the new F1 we’re expecting from McLaren, we’re also expecting to see the 12C Spider arrive before too long too, complete with folding hard top just like the 458 Spyder (which begs the question why would anyone want the coupe?).
So the news we’ve had this morning from a McLaren owner/VIP that McLaren is putting together an outing for McLaren owners and VIPs this month to Woking – all done by phone and with no real details of what to expect – leads to the reasonable supposition that McLaren are about to unveil at least one of their new cars to the McLaren faithful ahead of a public debut.
But which will it be – McLaren MP4-12 C Spider or the new F1?
