New Tesla Cybertruck Pick-up – it’s completely BONKERS

The new Tesla Cybertruck Pick-up is revealed at an event in Los Angeles, with radical wedge-shaped design and stunning supercar performance.

Elon Musk does like to surprise, and he had promised the new Tesla Pick-up – the Tesla Cybertruck – would look like nothing else when it arrived. And, this time, Musk wasn’t exaggerating.

Revealed in Los Angeles (separate from the Motor Show), the Tesla Cybertruck is a wedge-shaped, futuristic pick-up which looks like it’s escaped from Blade Runner, complete with the performance of a supercar. Although not when carrying a load, we’d venture.

Entry point is a single motor version good for 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds and a 250-mile range, followed by mid-range dual motor version good for 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds.

But sitting at the top of the Cybertruck range is a tri-motor ‘Plaid’ version good for 0-62mph in just 2.9 seconds and a range of 500 miles. But there’s practicality too, with payloads from 1360kg and towing capacities up to 4,500kg.

The bonkers body is made from ultra-hard 30X cold-rolled stainless steel, the load bay is getting on for two metres (the same as the F150), there’s 2800 litres of lockable storage, seating for up to six, a very Tesla interior with big screen (and more angles and ‘wedge’) and adaptive air suspension.

It all looks like a completely mad concept, but Musk is insistent that this Cybertruck is what’s going to be built and delivered to buyers and is taking deposits already. Although it won’t arrive until the end of 2021 at the earliest.

But is it just too bonkers, a case of Musk sensationalism for the sake of it? Or is it the future for pick-ups?
