New Toyota Auris – Bigger, better looking and new Hybrid option
The new Toyota Auris has been revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, with improved looks, a new platform and a new 2.0 litre Hybrid option.
The current Toyota Auris isn’t the most exciting or dynamic car on the planet, although it’s actually very good at doing the, often very boring, day to day driving grind. But the new Toyota Auris, revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, promises to deliver far more, whilst still maintaining its bullet-proof, family workhorse basics.
Now sitting on Toyota’s TNGA Platform (just like the C-HR and Prius) it promises to be more dynamic, more rigid and nicer to drive, as well as offering more space, better looks and new hybrid power.
The fresh nose and back end are far more convincing than the current Auris, and the Auris actually looks quite dynamic and appealing as a result.
Under the bonnet there are no diesels options – which had already been dropped for the current Auris – but there is a single 1.2 litre petrol option as well as a pair of hybrids.
The main hybrid option is the familiar 1.8 litre – as seen in the C-HR and Prius – but the Auris is also going to be available with Toyota’s new 2.0 litre hybrid too.
It will give the new Auris much stronger performance, with 177bhp better able to make use of the new platform’s abilities, and we’d expect it to come with Toyota’s new and much improved CVT gearbox with its launch gear.
The new Toyota Auris isn’t expected to go on sale in the UK until the end of 2018, but it will be built in the UK.
