The new Volvo V90 Inscription (pictured) retains 41.8% of its value after 3 years
Volvo has revealed that their new 90 Series cars – XC90, V90 and S90 – enjoy the strongest residual values ever for Volvo, and the new XC60 is following suit.
The new Volvo 90 Series range – XC90, V90 and S90 – really are a step change for Volvo, taking them from a market position somewhere between mainstream and premium right in to the heart of the premium market dominated by the German car makers.
And its seems that is now being reflected in the residual values the new 90 Series cars are enjoying, which are the best Volvo has ever enjoyed, and the match – and better – of the Germans. And that means more affordable lease/PCP rates.
The new Volvo XC90 D5 Momentum holds on to 48.7% of its value after three years, compared to 46.8%, 43.5% and 42.1% for the comparable Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Mercedes GLE respectively.
The V90 D4 Inscription holds on to 41.8% of its value (42.5%, 40.5% and 36.1% for the Mercedes, BMW and Audi), and the new S90- D4 Momentum manages 39.8% residual against the 41.8%, 40.9% and 36.2% of the equivalent Mercedes, BMW and Audi.
Graeme Oswald, Volvo’s UK Remarketing Manager, said:
Residual values are the cornerstone for every car in the leasing sector. Every element of the 90 series has been developed with the corporate buyer in mind, and their ultra-competitive values have been helped by our listening and responding to feedback from fleet buyers and their drivers.
It looks like the new Volvo XC60 is going to follow suite, with new XC60 D4 AWD Momentum predicted to retain 45.6% of its value after three years, some 10% better than the outgoing XC60.

Sure. This is a prediction (we don’t have three years history on these new cars as they are only out a year) and how do you determine “relatively comparable”. The bottom line is, they all drop over 15 percent a year, making leasing look more attractive all the time as you can lease for near depreciation on these. try selling one yourself when it is up against the dealer’s, who buy them at wholesale and add a certified warranty. Good luck.
