Porsche is recalling 11,324 Porsche Panameras for a faulty seat belt mechanism.
It’s not exactly in the same league as the recall that afflicted so many Toyotas (and Peugeots, and Citroens, and Lexus…) but seems a blow to Porsche’s reputation none the less.
Every Porsche Panamera made from launch until 25th February – which is just about every Panamera there is – is being recalled to fix a safety issue with seatbelts. A total of 11,324 cars are being recalled.
So what is this big deal issue with the seat belts? It would appear that if you have the front seat all the way forward, and you then repeatedly drive backwards and forwards, the seat belt locking mechanism could release – ‘Could’ being the operative word.
Now this is just the sort of issue which does crop up from time to time on cars, gets noticed and then gets fixed quickly. But since the ‘ToyotaGate’ we seem to have become rather obsessed with recalls, so this one is making big headlines. It shouldn’t. It’s really not important.
It is being fixed. Porsche say it’s a’While you wait’ fix, so unlikely to inconvenience anyone.
