Range Rover gets new 3.0 litre 275PS SDV6 diesel option
Land Rover continues its engine option tweaking with the arrival of a more powerful 3.0 litre SDV6 diesel engine option for the flagship Range Rover.
Land Rover is very reliant on diesel engines, and for good reason; in a real SUV with proper off-road and towing abilities torque is king, and Land Rover’s diesel engines offer plenty of the twisty stuff to breeze through just about any challenge thrown its way.But the world is falling out with diesel engines, so Land Rover is heading down the electrical assistance route, but with WLTP emissions testing in the frame too it’s stop-gapping by tweaking its diesel engine offerings to keep things on an even keel.
We’ve recently seen the Land Rover Discovery get a new 3.0 litre V6 diesel option, and the Range Rover Sport now has an upsized 3.0 litre SDV6 to replace the 2.0 litre four-pot. And now it’s the Range Rover’s turn.
The Range Rover is now getting a 275PS (271bhp in old money) 3.0-litre twin-turbo SDV6 engine to replace the TDV6, which comes with an extra 19bhp, 461lb/ft of torque and official economy of 36.7mpg.
Land Rover has also tweaked the eight-speed automatic gearbox in the 4.4 litre SDV8 diesel to deliver lower emissions and improved economy (at least officially) and, together with the P400e plug-in hybrid, they make up Land Rover’s ‘Eco’ offerings for the time being.
Of course, if you can live with the economy and price, you can still have a Range Rover with the supercharged V8 petrol with up to 565bhp and 520lb/ft of torque.
