Saab has revised the chassis settings for the 2.0-litre TiD 160PS and spec improvements for the 9-5 Vector SE models.
The Saab 9-5 holds out a lot of promise. It seems to embody much of what the Saab of old offered – subtly stylish, individual and slightly quirky – despite being a GM under the skin. Saab even went to the trouble of giving the UK a Sport setup for the chassis instead of the comfort chassis specified in some markets.
Unfortunately, it seems that the Sport setup on the Saab 9-5 was just a bit too harsh for UK roads. Those who got a Saab 9-5 to review (we didn’t; we actually have trouble even getting a response from Saab, for some reason) found the ride quality unacceptable but – to Saab’s credit – they’ve responded by changing the setup on the 2.0-litre TiD 160PS to offer a more compliant ride and chucked in a set of 18″ alloys.
As well as having a fiddle with the 2.0-litre TiD 160PS, Saab has also decided to upgrade the 9-5 Vector SE models with a bit of extra kit. For the 2011MY you will now get leather as standard and a set of 18″ ‘Carve’ alloy wheels, all without price increase.
Saab say:
“These improvements are the result of feedback from the UK automotive media. The improved driving characteristics address issues related to ride comfort on UK roads. The fact that the engineering team have managed to make the changes without affecting the impressive CO2 emissions of just 139g/km for the manual 2.0-litre TiD 160PS car show that the small independent Saab engineering team can respond very quickly to market requirements.”
Good on ’em.
