The SEAT Leon Cross Sport – probably a high-riding Leon Cupra
The SEAT Leon Cross Sport has been revealed in a design sketch ahead of a debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, looking like a high-riding Cupra.
SEAT’s move in to SUVs is on the horizon, but in the meantime a move in to high-riding Crossover versions of their current range is a sensible step, as shown by the recent Leon X-Perience.And now it looks like SEAT are planning to deliver another Crossover, with the first sketch of the SEAT Leon Cross Sport released ahead of a debut at Frankfurt this week.
SEAT are being tight-lipped about the Leon Cross Sport and, apart from the sketch, all SEAT has to say is that it:
“… matches the Brand perfectly with its performance, dynamic Design and Crossover attitude and the urban lifestyle of our young spirited customers”.
No doubt more will be revealed in the next day or two as the Cross Sport’s debut at Frankfurt looms, but it does seem likely that it will be a performance crossover, in effect a high-riding version of the new Leon Cupra 290, delivering four-wheel-drive and impressive performance with bolt-on ruggedness, just like the X-Perience. Although it may make more sense just to transplant the Golf R’s engine and 4WD powertrain.
Whatever the Leon Cross Sport is, and whether it’s a car with production intent, we’ll find out soon enough.
