Lewis Hamilton has beaten team mate Nico Rosberg to pole position for the 2014 Spanish Grand Prix for yet another Mercedes one-two.

Hamilton (centre) takes pole in Spain from Rosberg (l) and Ricciardo
We’re already coming to expect Lewis Hamilton to take pole position in this years Grands Prix, but he only managed to pip team mate Nico Rosberg to pole in the closing minutes of final qualifying of the Spanish Grand Prix for yet another Mercedes one-two (a feat Mercedes also managed here in 2013).
Behind the Mercedes pair it was Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo who took third place followed by Bottas in the Williams and Grosjean in the Lotus, with the Ferrari’s in sixth and seventh (with Raikkonen beating Alonso), Jenson Button in eighth for McLaren and Felipe Massa for Williams in ninth. Vettel took tenth spot after he failed to set a time.
It seems that despite many teams promising big improvements in this first European race of the season, Mercedes are head and shoulders above the rest, and even Daniel Ricciardo – the nearest any of the rest are to competing with Mercedes – could only manage a time more than a second off Hamilton’s pace in the Mercedes.
It looks like the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona tomorrow is going to be another tussle between Hamilton and Rosberg. And if Lewis stays in front he will finally take the lead in the Drivers Championship race.
