Ssangyong Tivoli XLV
The Ssangyong Tivoli XLV will debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show as a Tivoli with an extra bit bolted on the back. Goes on sale summer 2016.
It seems we’re getting a Ssangyong Tivoli XLV debut at the Geneva Motor Show in a couple of weeks time, which you’d expect to be a bigger take on the regular Tivoli. Which it is. Sort of.It appears that the Tivoli XLV is indeed a bigger version of the Tivoli, but the extra that’s on offer is all bolted on the back.
In fact, the wheelbase of the Tivoli XLV is exactly the same as the regular car – 2600mm – but it’s been stretched from the C-Pillar back by 235mm, creating a boot space that increases from 423 litres to a relatively cavernous 720 litres.
Logically, you’d expect Ssangyong are stretching the Tivoli at the back to offer a seven-seat version, but there seems to be no confirmation that’s the plan.
Apart from the extra bit on the back, the Tivoli XLV will be offering exactly what the regular Tivoli does, with the same trim levels, the same choice of a 1.6 litre diesel or petrol engine, six-speed manual or automatic gearbox and front-wheel or four-wheel drive.
Prices for the Tivoli XLV are going to be higher than the £12,950 starting price of the regular Tivoli, but we wouldn’t expect Ssangyong to be pushing them up by much.
In fact, if the extra space is just for carrying ‘stuff’, we can’t see buyers being willing to fork out the extra, but if Ssangyong do offer seven-seats in the Tivoli XLV then a starting price of £14,950 would probably be about right.
We’ll find out at the Geneva Motor Show.
