Tesla Destination Charging rolls out in the UK
Tesla is rolling out Destination Charging in the UK and Europe, allowing Tesla owners to charge their cars at Hotels, Restaurants and Malls.
One of the biggest obstacles to the take-up of electric cars (apart from battery technology) has been range anxiety and the lack of facilities to re-charge easily when out and about.Public EV charging points are proliferating, to a point, and Tesla has a network of Superchargers that will get you back on the road in a relatively short time. But now Tesla is going further with the roll-out of Destination Charging points across the US and Europe.
The Destination Charging points don’t deliver a re-charge at the same rate as the Superchargers, but they will add 58 miles of range for every hour they’re connected and they’re in convenient locations too, such as restaurants, car parks, hotels and shopping centres
Tesla is offering to fit a couple of Destination Chargers free of charge at any suitable site where they’re publicly visible, and there are already 26 in the UK and 150 across Europe, with many more planned.
In the UK, many are in the South East at the moment – from Harrods to Harley Street and the L’Ortolan Restaurant in Reading to Luton Hoo – but also across the UK from the South West to the Lake District, as well as in Wales and Scotland.
An up to date list of Destination Chargers in the UK and Europe can be found on Tesla’s website.
