IS this how the Range Rover Sport will look in 2030?
Land Rover in the US has teamed up with Hulu to create a 2030 Range Rover Sport for ‘The First’ drama series.
Cars can be an iconic part of any drama, from TV to movies, and we often remember cars from films even when we can’t remember the actors (or maybe that’s just petrolheads?).So it’s entirely possible that this future Range Rover Sport will be remembered long after the drama it stars in – Hulu’s ‘The First’ – has been forgotten.
Sensibly, The First’s creators didn’t take a Range Rover Sport off to an aftermarket customiser to get a mad Californian to imagine a Range Rover Sport from the 2030s, but turned to Land Rover North America instead.
So rather than getting something almost unrecognisable, ‘The First’s’ Range Rover Sport is still recognisable as such, but is clearly more than little different to the RRS you can buy today.
The ‘futurised’ features added to the Range Rover Sport include a 360 sensor in a Smart Light Bar which communicates with other vehicles and reads road surfaces, and a steering wheel which retracts in to the dashboard.
The bodywork has been ‘smoothed’ and simplified (Land Rover are calling it ‘reductive’ styling) with wraparound privacy glass which can change from opaque to clear, suicide doors, and an interior which can change shape, density and form to act as a passive safety system. Unsurprisingly, this Range Rover Sport has an electric powertrain.
Michael Curmi, JLR Brand Experience Director, said:
We are excited to partner with Hulu for this fantastic series. With the show set in the near future, it was an exciting challenge to work with Westward Productions and Hulu to create a vision of what a Range Rover Sport might look like in the 2030s and to have it featured throughout the series.
Hulu, a rival to Netflix and Amazon Prime, isn’t available in the UK for you to get a look at the new ‘The First’ series and the future Range Rover Sport. Well, not officially.
