Top Gear Tonight: Hearse, Dallara Stradale and Zara and Mike Tindall
Top Gear tonight – Series 27, Episde 3 – features a Hearse as the perfect family car, Chris Harris in the Dallara Stradale and Zara and Mike Tindall.
We’ve had two episodes so far of Top Gear’s 27th series, now presented by Paddy McGuinness, Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris. And it seems to be working rather well. The firts episode managed to grab an on the night audience of 2.8 million – the biggest Top Gear audience, on the night, for three years – and consolidated ratings of 4.1 million. Episode two looks like it retained those figures.
The relationship between Northerners McGuinness and Flintoff worked from the off, and Chris Harris makes the perfect foil for their humour, and for the first time since Clarkson, Hammond and May, the show is really firing on all cylinders.
Tonight, Paddy McGuiness declares that the perfect family car is an old Hearse, because they’re as cheap as chips, well cared for, have previously been driven slowly and have bags of room for family stuff.
So he arrives with a Daimler hearse, it’s loaded with ‘stuff’ and taken to the TG track. But, as this is Top Gear, it doesn’t stop there, so it gets ‘modified’ and turned in to ‘The Overtaker’. Challenges ensue.
Away from the Hearse antics, Chris Harris gets to grip with the Dallara Stradale on track to find out if a ‘Supercar’ with a 2.3 litre Ford engine deserves a price tag of £200k, and finds out if it can pull as much G-Force as a Lotus 3-Eleven driven by Flintoff.
Star driving faces this week are Zara and Mike Tindall going head-to-head in the Reasonably Fast Car. Which could be slightly competitive.
Top Gear Series 27 Episode 3 is ion BBC2 at 8pm tonight (30 June 2019).
