Toyota CONFIRMS six-cylinder engine for new Supra
The new Toyota Supra is heading for the Goodwood Festival of Speed this week as Toyota finally confirms it will come with an in-line six-cylinder engine.
Just a few days ago we revealed that the new Toyota Supra, albeit a Supra with camouflaged looks, is heading for the Goodwood Festival of Speed and will be blatting up the Hillclimb.Toyota has caught up with that bit of Supra news this morning with a press releases, but it also, for the first time we think, confirms the new Supra will come with an in-line six-cylinder engine.
Toyota don’t go any further than that, but it pretty much confirms speculation that the new Supra will get BMW’s in-line six-cylinder engine with something a round 335bhp, which should be enough to get the new Supra to 62mph in a round 4.5 seconds.
We’ll get some idea of the performance of the Supra as it takes to the Goodwood hillclimb every day of the Festival of Speed in the hands of Chief Engineer Tetsuya Tada and Herwig Daenens, two Toyota people who have led the Supra’s development.
Toyota are calling the Goodwood Supra a prototype, but we’ll have more than an idea of its appeal and performance from its outings, and the appearance of the Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept – revealed at the Geneva Motor Show – will leave no doubt Toyota are serious about making the Supra a proper sports car.
The 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed starts on Thursday (12 July 2018).
