Vauxhall Adam gets new 1.0 litre 3-cylinder engine, Cascada new new 1.6 SIDI turbo with 197bhp

The new Vauxhall Adam is getting a new 1.0 litre, 3-cylinder engine and the new Cascada a new 1.7 litre Turbo with 197bhp.

Vauxhall Adam & Vauxhall Cascada get new engines

Vauxhall (and Opel, for that matter) are on a mission to fit new, more powerful and more efficient engines in cars across their range, and new engines are on their way for the Vauxhall Adam and the new Cascada.

The Vauxhall Adam gets a new 1.0 litre 3-cylinder engine from GM’s SGE (Small Gasoline Engine) family that will ultimately offer 3 and 4-cylinder engines up to 1.6 litres.

The 1.0 litre 3-pot for the Adam gets 113bhp and 122lb/ft of torque (it’s Vauxhall’s take on the hugely successful 1.0 litre EcoBoost Ford are busy introducing across their range) mated to a new six-speed gearbox.

It has a lightweight aluminium block, variable valve timing, direct injection, a chain-driven balancer to smooth out running, a low-hiss compressor and acoustically optimised cover to keep it quiet and smooth. Fuel economy in the Adam is expected to be around 52mpg.

The New Vauxhall Cascada gets a new 1.6 litre four cylinder SIDI engine that comes with direct injection and a turbo to deliver a very useful 197bhp and 220lb/ft of torque and aoffers a nice bit of extra oomph over and above the existing 1.6 litre SIDI that can only manage 168bhp.

The new engine for the Cascada can be ordered in the UK from October, and the 1.0 litre 3-cylinder will be available in the Adam from 2014.
